We are delighted to invite you to the next free HLA webinar which will take place on Monday 7th September at 13.00 (BST).

The webinar topic is  Reducing the Carbon Intensity of Humanitarian Logistics and our speaker is Professor Alan McKinnon from the Kuehne Logistics University in Hamburg.

The presentation will begin with an update on climate science and global efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions.  Having established the scale of the climate change challenge, it will outline a procedure that organisations can use to develop a decarbonisation strategy for their logistics operations.  Attention will focus on key stages in this process, including the measurement of emissions, the setting of carbon reduction targets, the assessment of decarbonisation options and the possible use of carbon offsetting.   In the case of freight transport, five sets of options will be reviewed, relating to transport demand, the choice of transport mode, asset utilisation, energy efficiency and the switch to low carbon energy sources.  The presentation will highlight some of the particular decarbonisation issues to be addressed in the humanitarian logistics sector.
