Workshop at HNPW Geneva 2020: Humanitarian Transport and Logistics – supporting local partners to incorporate a Quality approach into everyday practice

February 6 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am UTC+1

HLA, as part of the INSPIRE Consortium project on common standards for HumLog is jointly hosting a workshop titled Humanitarian Transport and Logistics – supporting local partners to incorporate a Quality approach into everyday practice at at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) taking place in Geneva from 3-7 February, 2020.

Purpose of the session:
Humanitarian transport and logistics are essential to enabling fast, efficient and effective response to a disaster. Many different organisations need to work together including government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, private companies and individuals; each having different ways of preparing for and responding to a crisis. Although there is a range of guidance on humanitarian transport and logistics available, existing tools require adaptation to the needs of a much broader range of humanitarian actors than originally intended, and to reflect more recent changes in practice and assure good quality – particularly at the local level.

As such, the session will share the work of the project (started in August 2019) conducted by the Inspire Consortium (and supported by HLA) that is working to develop a set of quality and accountability standards for humanitarian transport and logistics. Based on existing materials, the process seeks to achieve agreed common principles and standards to guide good practice in this field.

Expected outcomes:
1. An understanding of the value of developing, or compiling, universally agreed high-level principles and associated standards for humanitarian transport and logistics.
2. Awareness of gaps in current technical guidelines or commercial standards related to humanitarian transport and logistics.
3. Opportunity to engage in the project consultation process.
Agenda (tbc) for the workshop scheduled for Thursday 6 February includes:
• Introduction of the project
• Review of draft Standards (Working groups)
• Plenary session
• Next steps for global consultation
