Workshop at HNPW Geneva 2020: Humanitarian Logistics – Looking to the Future

February 6 @ 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm UTC+1

HLA and Airlink are hosting a workshop titled Humanitarian Logistics – Looking to the Future at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) taking place in Geneva from 3-7 February, 2020. The session, a response to the changing humanitarian landscape, is intended to explore developments since the WHS (World Humanitarian Summit) of 2016, and to identify what needs to be achieved over the next decade by the humanitarian logistics community of practice, to support the localisation agenda and the huge requirement to address climate change.

Some questions expected to be answered are:

  1. Although localisation efforts are increasing, is the rate of increase proportionate to demand and, recognising that sustainable supply chains are environmentally better performing, what should be the shape and scope of humanitarian logistics (including Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response in Aviation [HADRA]) over the next decade?
  2. How can global private sector and other non-profit logistics resources support improved national resilience and preparedness in fragile and disaster prone states?
  3. What opportunities exist for the private sector to strategically engage to support local, environmentally sustainable, humanitarian and emergency supply chains? (For example, Agility Logistics’ efforts to build world-class warehousing facilities in Africa).

The agenda (tbc) for the two-part workshop on Thursday 6 February includes presentations and discussions on:

(14:00 – 15:30)

  • What is ‘humanitarian logistics’ and what has been learned over the past decade? HLA
  • Eco logistics: Avoid – Shift – Improve concept. Smart Freight Centre

To include input from the HADRA expert group (morning session) regarding airport services that should be put in place to support humanitarian logistics actors. Airlink and OCHA
