This was the first regional event to be convened by HLA; it was opened Mr Abbas Gullet, Secretary General Kenya Red Cross Society (KRC). The event was kindly sponsored by Kuehne Foundation and supported by CILT(UK), which provides administrative assistance to HLA.
- Mr Gullet praised the HLA initiative that has been created by committed humanitarian logistics individuals to bring together a community of professional practice to help develop tools for delivering quality supply-chain management and logistics services and to beneficiaries in a cost effective manner.
The value of the practitioners of SCM brought together by HLA cannot be over emphasized. SCM and Logistics, when well resourced can deliver the required “niche” to organizations and to those in most need of assistance.
The KRC will be establishing a logistics centre, a one stop shop to support their Red Cross movement activities. One of the logistics successes is that the KRC does not buy vehicles; they lease these from IFRC Dubai, through a vehicle leasing program which has greatly assisted the KRC to focus on core business.
