Retiring Chief of Logistics Support and Inventory Section, Supply Management Service, UNHCR
After working several years with the Somali Government, I joined UNDP in December 1973 and later moved to UNHCR in March 1980 in Somalia. I have served the UN System more than 34 years with UNHCR for more than 28 years. I have spent most of my career with UNHCR in Africa, Asia and at Headquarters in Geneva as follows:
1980 – 1982 : Mogadishu, Somalia , in the programme sector
1983 - 1984 : Peshawar, Pakistan, as Associate Programme Officer
1984 – 1987 : Juba, South Sudan, as Programme/Logistics Officer
1987 - 1989 : Kuala Trengannu, Malaysia, Head of Sub-Office
1989 - 1993 : Procurement Officer, UNHCR Headquarters, Geneva
1993 - 1995 : Senior Repatriation Officer, Lilongwe, Malawi
1995 - 1997 : Senior Field Officer/Head of Field Office, Sikhiu, Thailand
1997 - 2000 : Senior Logistics Officer, Dar es salaam, Tanzania
2001 until September: on mission to Eriteria organizing repatriation of Eriterians from Sudan.
Since October 2001, I have been working at Headquarters Geneva initially as Head of Logistics Unit. In December 2003, the Supply Management Service was restructured merging different Units and forming two main Sections. TheLogistics and Asset Management Units were merged forming: Logistics Support and Inventory Section. I have been leading this Section and now retiring at the end of April 2008. I have been involved in all emergencies at Headquarters level since October 2001.
