Logistician – Emergency Response

The British Red Cross helps vulnerable people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are currently looking for experienced logisticians with international experience for our ERU roster, who are willing to travel at short notice (24 - 48 hours) to relief operations anywhere in the world. We are particularly interested in increasing our number of air operations specialists. Roster members will be ‘on call’ for deployment for at least 1 month per year. If deployed, you will receive a minimum salary of £25,034 pa pro rata and benefits to include a kit allowance, accommodation, generous in country allowance and insurance. Deployments of one month or less will attract an additional 15 per cent bonus.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide logistics support to International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent emergency operations through the Logistics ERU; the team member will ensure the safe reception, storage, distribution and reporting of relief goods handled by the ERU team.

An ERU Logistics team is activated at the request of a FACT Team Leader and will form part of a larger, emergency relief intervention team. Standard operating procedures for Emergency Response Units (ERU), as agreed to by the deploying National Society, apply.

You will have:

  • Substantial logistics field experience ideally in the humanitarian field, with reasonable developing country field experience. Experience of Warehousing, Airport Clearance, Transporting goods, Fleet Management, Purchasing, Customs Clearance - preferably specialising in 2 or more.
  • Experience of working in developing countries
  • Experience of financial, narrative reporting & managing budgets
  • Experience of working as part of a team and ideally managing staff
  • IT literate to intermediate level (MS Word, spreadsheets, email, databases) with knowledge of communication systems (Satellite phones, etc)
  • Ability to cope with stress and working long hours in emergency relief situations
