Global Supply Chain Manager - London – Farringdon
The earthquake hit at around 5pm local time. Its epicentre was just outside the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince and it measured 7.0 on the Richter Scale. An earthquake of this magnitude has not been felt in Haiti for about 200 years. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere with over half the population below the poverty line. An estimated three million people have been affected, with many left homeless and forced to live in squalid conditions. Initial estimates of casualties run into the thousands. Urgent needs are likely to include shelter, water and sanitation, and health. Emergency response is core to our work at Save the Children. Getting the urgently needed supplies in country and out to the affected populations as soon as possible is crucial to our response if we are going to prevent further lose of life and provide relief to those left homeless and injured. Can you help? Save the Children is looking to recruit a Global Supply Chain Manager to help us develop and implement supply strategies worldwide to meet the needs of vulnerable children around the world. Based in our London headquarters the Global Supply Chain Manager will work closely with our Global Programmes as well as our emergency response teams to identify the supply needs and liaise with suppliers and other international humanitarian organisations to find worldwide solutions.

Introduction
Save the Children is an ambitious and growing organisation. Specific goals and priorities around newborn and child survival, fragile states, “One Save the Children” as well as emergency response are targeted at dramatically increasing impact for vulnerable children around the world. These priorities demand a significant scale up of activities which will in turns requires us to increase our ability to procure and deliver goods and services quickly to a high standard and quality, as and when needs are identified by our programmes globally.
Save the Children is looking for a Global Supply Chain Manager to enable us to scale up our supply chain capacity globally be able to provide the support to programmes to enable Save the Children to realise its priorities and goals over the coming years.
Job Purpose
Working for Save the children UK, the Global Supply Chain Manager will develop and implement Supply chain strategies for our development and emergency programmes. These strategies will support the objectives of Save the children and our alliance members as well as the soon to be developed International programme Unit.
Through these supply strategies, you will ensure that Save the Children will be able to maximise our global buying power, increase the efficiency of our supply chain keeping costs down whilst delivering high quality goods and services to our programmes as needed.
Key Accountabilities

Management of Global Procurement team
-
Management of all international procurement carried out in the UK on behalf of Save the Children programmes ensuring compliance with Save the Children policies and procedures

Ensure timely management of requests, that programmes are kept update of order status and that goods of the right specifications and lead times are met

Review global procurement requirements and ensure Global Procurement team are meeting needs of emergency and development programmes

Ensure HO and emergency stocks are managed appropriately and in line with our policies and procedures

Improve global buying power and reach

Development on Global Supplier database
-
Management of Global contracts of standard products.

Expanding the reach of the Save the Children UK framework agreements to Save the Children Alliance Members, to enable us to maximise buying power and reduce costs globally.

Working with Save the Children Alliance members on developing joint approaches to supply chain management.

Development and implementation of emergency supply solutions
-
Working with Regional Emergency Managers, to identify supply needs and seek solutions based on Emergency Prepardeness plans.

Oversee the management of the Emergency supply hub in Dubia
-
Identifying (and where possible set up) supply hubs in 3-4 regions and at programme level
-
Support Save the Children UK, Allinace members and the soon to be formed International Programme Unit the development and implementation of supply chain solutions to meet emergencies needs.

Improving supply chain management across global programmes
-
Working closely with regional offices, Regional Emergency Managers and programmes to identify and manage their supply needs.

Introduction and training to logistics and programmes staff on supply chain management with particular focus on procurement

Providing technical support in development of local and international tenders.

Identifying local and regional supplies of key standard products to high quality i.e. Mosquito nets, Medical procurement, nutritional foods

Working with corporate team in Philanthropy & Partnership to develop corporate relations for provision and management of Gifts in kind for emergency and development work.

Development of Supply chain guidelines and systems to strengthen supply chain management and improve accountability.

Working with Global Finance on the development of logistics aspects of the new financial software, key areas being procurement and asset management

Working with Commodities team in the SC US on the development of supply chain management systems

Working International Programme Unit and Core Process Harmonisation groups to ensure that key logistics processes are developed and shared.

Person specification

Good knowledge of the Supply Chain and an understanding of the benefits of adding value to the process.

Supply Chain Management experience in an international arena with comprehensive knowledge of framework agreements, contracting, supplier evaluation and risk assessment.

A high standard of negotiation skills in order to build successful relationships with strategic suppliers and other commercial organisations to achieve maximum co-operation, guaranteed minimum delivery capacity and value for money for SCUK.

Ability to think laterally and creatively in order to evaluate logistical problems, and to apply a logical and pragmatic approach to solve any problems.

Politically and culturally sensitive with the proven ability to work in an ever-changing environment requiring flexibility, tact and diplomacy.

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal in order to act with sensitivity, inform, negotiate, advise, persuade and communicate with a wide range of audiences.
